Operational Duress
The Operational Duress canary is our most critical warrant canary. We define "operational duress" as not having free will to run the company in accordance with our best practices in a manner we believe results in the most secure elections we can deliver. Death of this canary would likely accompany dissolution of the company or transfer of ownership (which should not be trusted). Example circumstances that would kill this canary are successful coercive demands to compromise electoral integrity, including:
Gag Orders
The Gag Order canary simply refers to our ability to freely discuss any topic we deem relevant to electoral integrity or our company. The ability to discuss ideas freely is essential to a functional and free society, but it may not be required to perform our duties in protecting electoral integrity. As such, this canary is not necessarily mission-critical. If we are unable to speak freely about relevant matters for any reason, our gag order canary dies.
Warrants
Given the operational characteristics of our company, we don't believe warrants compromise our ability to do our jobs. We don't protect any data that would compromise elections if exposed. This canary might be effectively inconsequential.
Clock
Ideally, the clock canary never dies. If the clock canary chirps without the others, the others are certainly dead. If a canary misses its expiration, it should be considered dead absent proven incapacitation of the birdkeeper.
