DECENT Elections, LLC
Decent Elections, LLC (Decent) is planning to run a mock election at DEF CON 34. This is not an event affiliated with or sanctioned by DEF CON itself. This event is intended to be a stress-test. The OSAKA (Open-Source, Asymmetric Key, Auditable) Protocol is new and has not yet been subjected to third party testing.
- You are permitted to try to alter the outcome of the mock election.
- The hosting company serving decentelections.com is a third party unaware of this competition. You may not attempt any attack on their server. This includes denial of service (DoS, DDoS). You may, however, attempt SQL injections on the election databases owned by Decent and hosted by the third party.
- Election Hardware (attestation devices) provided by Decent for use in the mock election may not be attacked.
- Testing Hardware (also attestation devices) provided by Decent that will not be used in ballot casting may be attacked non-destructively. If you would like to attempt an attack that may (or will) be destructive, you must consult with Decent staff and acquire permission beforehand.
Participants are encouraged to attempt to "hack" the mock election, as bound by the rules above. You must disclose a newly discovered exploit or vulnerability to Decent staff in order to be considered an entrant in the competition. Only the first person to disclose a specific issue is eligible (no tailgaters). Disclosure of both the exploit and the method used to perform the exploit are necessary for entry. Whether an exploit is significant enough to be considered an entry shall be at the discretion of Decent. At the close of the mock election, Decent will choose what it deems to be the most significant exploit as the winning entry. The prize shall be the compensation of the entrant's DEF CON people badge price, not to exceed $599.
Individuals may be awarded a challenge coin to commemorate their participation, while supplies last.
